NIRL and OREDA Sign MoU to Boost Renewable Energy Projects in Odisha
This MoU is marks to accelerate renewable energy growth in Odisha through solar, hybrid, rooftop, and energy storage projects.
Bhubaneswar: To take an important step toward accelerating renewable energy development across the state, a MoU signed between NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a subsidiary of NLC India Limited (NLCIL), and the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) at the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025 in Puri.
The agreement focuses on jointly developing a wide range of clean-energy projects, including large-scale solar parks, hybrid systems, rooftop solar installations, and energy storage solutions. These projects will support Odisha’s long-term plan to expand clean power generation, strengthen energy security, and reduce carbon emissions.
The formal exchange was conducted by Shri Rohit Kumar Pandey, Regional Manager of NLCIL, Bhubaneswar, representing NIRL, and Shri Saidutta Biplab Keshari Pradhan, Additional Secretary, Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, and CEO of OREDA Ltd., representing the state government and OREDA.
The ceremony took place in the presence of key state leaders and senior officials. Among them were Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha and Minister of Energy; Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Energy, Odisha; Dr. Satyapriya Rath, IAS, Managing Director, GRIDCO Limited; and Dr. Debi Dutta Tripathy, Odisha Finance Service (OFS), Financial Advisor-cum-Additional Secretary, Department of Energy, Odisha. Their participation highlighted the state’s strong support for renewable energy expansion.
Speaking at the event, officials emphasized that the collaboration will help Odisha unlock its vast renewable-energy potential. With growing electricity demand and increasing focus on sustainable development, the state aims to boost clean-energy investments and promote green growth. The partnership is expected to fast-track project planning, encourage private-sector involvement, and improve infrastructure for power integration.
The initiative aligns with the Government of Odisha’s broader energy-transition goals, which include scaling up solar capacity, promoting decentralized power generation, and strengthening the grid with modern storage facilities. By working together, NIRL and OREDA plan to accelerate project execution and contribute to India’s national renewable-energy targets.
With this MoU, Odisha takes a major step forward in building a cleaner and more resilient energy future. The joint effort is set to bring long-term benefits to the state’s economy, environment, and communities by creating green jobs, improving power availability, and supporting sustainable development.
