Odisha Hosts Global Energy Leaders’ Summit 2025 in Puri
Major international event to shape India’s long-term energy future from December 5–7
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will host the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025 in Puri from December 5 to 7. The event will bring together national and international leaders to discuss India’s future energy goals, marking an important step in Odisha’s efforts to support a major energy transformation in the country.
Designed similar to the global COP climate conferences, GELS 2025 aims to become India’s most important platform for long-term energy planning. The summit will include representatives from the Union government, 15 Indian states, and more than 30 leading energy experts from across the world.
Officials said the event will strengthen cooperation between states, promote new ideas, and support India’s roadmap for clean, reliable, and secure energy.
The theme for GELS 2025 is “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation.” It highlights three important goals:
Sufficiency: Ensuring every citizen and industry has access to affordable and reliable electricity.
Balance: Finding the right mix between environmental protection and economic growth.
Innovation: Encouraging new technologies, policy reforms, and modern financing models to support sustainable energy.
These pillars will guide the discussions throughout the three-day summit.
Experts and government officials will hold detailed sessions on some of the most important issues in the energy sector, including:
- Power trading and market reforms
- Energy storage systems to support renewable energy
- The future of nuclear power in India
- Use of artificial intelligence (AI) in energy forecasting, grid management, and efficiency
- Green hydrogen and new clean energy technologies
- Financing and investment for large-scale energy projects
The summit is expected to produce actionable recommendations that can support India’s long-term energy security.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo described GELS 2025 as “India’s COP for the energy sector,” highlighting its importance in bringing together top decision-makers and experts under one roof. He said Odisha is proud to lead such a major initiative that will influence the future of the country’s power and clean energy systems.
Officials noted that Odisha has been making strong progress in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and power sector reforms. Hosting the summit will help the state showcase its potential and attract investments in clean energy, transmission, and new technologies.
The government expects the summit to benefit not only the energy sector but also tourism and hospitality in Puri. With global and national delegates attending the three-day event, the state aims to demonstrate its capability to host large international conferences.
Preparations have already begun to ensure world-class facilities, smooth transport, and secure arrangements for the summit.
By bringing together global experts, state governments, and India’s top energy decision-makers, the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit 2025 is set to help India create a bold and forward-looking energy strategy. The event will support innovation, strengthen cooperation, and help build a cleaner and more reliable energy system for future generations.
