OHPC Partners With World Skill Center to Empower Youth Through Advanced Training

CSR initiative to train 60 students from five districts in high-demand technical and service sector trades

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Ltd. (OHPC) has strengthened its community outreach by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Skill Center (WSC), Bhubaneswar, to offer advanced skill development training to youth from districts where OHPC operates. The initiative, taken under OHPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, aims to support the career growth of young people from marginalised communities by equipping them with globally relevant technical skills.

Under the programme, OHPC will sponsor 60 students from Angul, Koraput, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, and Sambalpur—districts that host its hydro power projects. The goal is to bridge the existing skill gap in these regions and create new pathways for employment and income stability. By focusing on skill education, OHPC aims to promote holistic community development and make local youth job-ready for domestic as well as international markets.

The selected candidates will receive intensive, hands-on training at the World Skill Center, which offers industry-aligned courses designed to meet global standards. Students will be trained in key specialised domains, including Beauty & Wellness, Vertical Transportation, Precision Engineering, Mechanical & Electrical Services, Electrical Technology, and AC & Refrigeration. These programmes are known for practical learning, modern labs, and structured apprenticeship opportunities that significantly enhance employability.

The MoU was formally signed by Sandeep Patnaik, Director (HR), on behalf of OHPC, and Mr. Pinaki Patnaik, Additional Secretary, SD & TE Department-cum-COO of WSC. The event was attended by senior OHPC officials—Pranab Kumar Mohanty, Director (Finance); Amiya Kumar Mohanty, Director (Operation) I/c; Anima Tripathy, CGM (HR); and Manoj Kumar Mohanty, DGM (HR). Representatives from WSC, including Principal T. Thambyrajah, Deputy Principal Jeetamitra Satpathy, and officials Pitchian Anthonysamy and Lim Lai Soon, were also present.

This collaboration highlights OHPC’s long-term commitment to uplifting communities near its project sites. By investing in skill development, the corporation aims to empower youth with future-ready training, promote economic resilience, and support the broader socio-economic growth of Odisha.
