Paradip Port to Seal Rs 1.5 Lakh Crore Deals at India Maritime Week
Agreements to span shipbuilding, green hydrogen, port modernization, and tourism as Odisha showcases maritime vision
Bhubaneswar : Paradip Port in Odisha is set to sign agreements worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore at the upcoming India Maritime Week (IMW) in Mumbai, officials announced . The agreements will cover a diverse range of sectors, including shipbuilding, ship repair, smart port initiatives, port modernization, business development, and green hydrogen projects. The event will be held from October 27 to 31.
India Maritime Week, hosted by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, is considered the world’s largest maritime conclave. This year’s edition is expected to bring together delegates from over 100 maritime nations, 200 international experts, and 500 leading maritime industries. The event will serve as a major platform for investment opportunities, technological exchange, and global collaboration in the maritime sector.
Paradip Port has recently been designated as a Green Hydrogen Hub, becoming one of only three ports in India to receive this recognition, alongside Tuticorin and Kandla. This distinction is expected to attract significant investment in clean energy infrastructure and boost India’s green energy transition.
The Odisha government will actively participate in India Maritime Week with a dedicated session to highlight the state’s maritime development plans. Odisha has already signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Paradip Port Authority for strategic initiatives such as the Bahuda port development and the establishment of a shipbuilding centre in Kendrapara district. These projects are expected to generate employment and spur regional economic growth.
In addition, Odisha is set to sign an MoU for the development of a cruise terminal in Puri during IMW 2025. The first phase of the project will focus on Puri, with plans to extend the cruise terminal to Paradip within the next two to three years, promoting maritime tourism in the state.
To boost public awareness and engagement, Paradip Port has launched several outreach activities. These include sand art displays at Paradip Beach, advertisements, hoardings, podcasts, and social media campaigns timed with the Diwali celebrations.
These initiatives reflect the combined efforts of the Government of Odisha, Paradip Port Authority, and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to strengthen maritime infrastructure, create employment opportunities, and foster economic development while promoting maritime culture and awareness across the state and beyond.
