Skilled-in-Odisha Goes Global: WSC Graduates 6th Batch with 93% Placements

Over 93% students placed; 94 secure international jobs as “Skilled-in-Odisha” brand shines globally

Bhubaneswar: The World Skill Center (WSC), Odisha’s flagship institute for advanced vocational and technical training, marked a major milestone with the graduation of its 6th batch. The event showcased the state’s growing success in building a globally competitive workforce, with 1,088 students completing their programs.

Attending the ceremony, Minister of Skill Development & Technical Education Sampad Chandra Swain congratulated the graduates and lauded their industry readiness. He pointed to the remarkable placement record, noting that more than 93% of students have already secured jobs in reputed organizations, with more offers expected in the coming weeks.

Significantly, 94 graduates received international job offers in the United Arab Emirates, from companies such as EMRILL and Jindal SAW. This global recognition, the Minister said, underscores the rising value of the “Skilled-in-Odisha” brand.

“This is not just a moment of celebration, but of transformation. Skill development has been a cornerstone of our journey towards Viksit Odisha. By equipping youth with industry-ready skills, we are creating livelihoods and building the future of our state,” Swain emphasized.

Marking the occasion, the Minister inaugurated two state-of-the-art Centers of Excellence: one in Smart Manufacturing, developed in collaboration with FESTO, and another in Industrial Automation, in partnership with Schneider Electric.

These facilities will allow students to train to global standards, preparing them for rapidly evolving industrial demands. The move reflects Odisha’s commitment to embedding advanced technology and innovation into its skilling ecosystem.

Graduates from the School of Engineering have been placed with leading companies such as Johnson Lifts, Reliance Solar, Jindal Steel, Fujitec, JSW, Tata Steel, Tata Autocomp, Airtel, and Wipro Aerospace. From the School of Services, students have joined top brands including IHLC of Tata, Green Trends, VLCC, Jawed Habib, Mahindra, and Swosti Hotels.

Some students achieved annual salary packages as high as ₹5.25 lakh, underscoring both the high quality of training at WSC and the confidence of industry in Odisha’s skilled youth.

To honor outstanding performers, 29 trainees were awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals for securing the top three positions in their respective trades. The recognition highlighted the academic rigor and competitive spirit nurtured within the institute.

The ceremony also witnessed the presence of key government officials and corporate leaders, reflecting the strong synergy between the state and industry. Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Skill Development & Technical Education Department, and Rashmita Panda, Director of Skill Development-cum-Employment and CEO of OSDA & WSC, graced the event.

Senior representatives from prominent firms, including Ranjit Ray (VP, Calderys India Refractories Ltd.), Saroj Kumar Mohanta (GM–Head Engineering & Maintenance), Syed Sameer Ali (Park Head, Wonderla Holidays Ltd., Bhubaneswar), and Abhishek Kumar (HR Head, Odisha, Bharti Airtel), also attended, reinforcing WSC’s growing reputation as a hub of industry-academia collaboration.

The graduation of the 6th batch reflects Odisha’s steady progress in transforming its youth into a workforce prepared for both domestic and international opportunities. By focusing on placements, international exposure, and cutting-edge training infrastructure, the state is aligning its skill development efforts with its larger vision of Viksit Odisha.

As the World Skill Center continues to expand its reach and capacity, it is not only shaping careers but also positioning Odisha as a leader in India’s skilling revolution.
