OMC MD Reviews Chrome Zone Operations in Jajpur, Stresses Automation and Sustainability

Focus on operational excellence and environmental stewardship in South Kaliapani and Sukrangi mines

Bhubaneswar: Sudhansu Mohan Samal, Managing Director of Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. (OMC), conducted an extensive review of the Corporation’s Chrome Zone operations in Jajpur district. Accompanied by Director (Operations) Sabyasachi Mohanty, Director (HR) Alok Kumar Pal, Director (Finance) Bana Bihari Pani, and sectional heads from the JK Road Mining Region, the MD inspected major mining and processing facilities while providing strategic guidance for operational and environmental improvements.

During the visit, Samal toured important operational sites of the South Kaliapani mines. The inspections included the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), Quarry D and Quarry F, stockyard, Chrome Ore Beneficiation Plant (COBP), and the tailing pond. He also reviewed operations at the Sukrangi and Kaliapani mines.

At each site, he directed teams to focus on strengthening automation in ore production and dispatch, introducing real-time monitoring systems, and adopting digital tools to improve efficiency. He underscored the importance of ensuring transparency in ore quality assurance and called on staff to take greater ownership in project execution.

Samal stressed the need for strict adherence to statutory compliances and legal frameworks governing mining operations. He urged teams to maintain the highest safety standards, ensure environmental protection, and implement robust monitoring systems for waste management.

“OMC’s growth must align with responsible mining practices, and compliance cannot be compromised at any stage,” the MD told the staff during the review.

The visit also covered OMC’s Ferro-Chrome Plant, where Samal assessed performance and ongoing projects. He encouraged diversification of business operations to tap into new market opportunities. Highlighting the role of renewable energy, he directed the adoption of solar power solutions to reduce dependency on conventional energy sources and promote sustainability.

Additionally, he called for large-scale plantation drives around mining and industrial areas, aiming to enhance the ecological balance and support the corporation’s green commitments.

In line with OMC’s long-term growth vision, Samal emphasized that sustainability must remain a central pillar of operations. He highlighted the need for collective efforts from all teams to not only meet business goals but also safeguard the environment.

“Our responsibility goes beyond mining ore; we must create a balance between industrial growth and ecological protection,” he said.

Commending the dedication of the regional staff, Samal urged employees to continue their proactive approach toward innovation, safety, and environmental responsibility. He called for greater collaboration across departments to improve productivity and efficiency.

The MD reiterated that OMC’s future lies in its ability to combine technological advancement with sustainability. By adopting automation, renewable energy, and transparent practices, the corporation can strengthen its position as a leader in responsible mining while contributing significantly to Odisha’s economic growth.
