CM Majhi Announces Jeypore–Bhubaneswar Vande Bharat Train, Unveils ₹762 Crore Development Boost in Koraput

Subhadra Yojana’s third instalment disbursed; paper mill revival and new college in Jeypore among major initiatives

Bhubaneswar– Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced that a new Vande Bharat Express will soon connect Jeypore and Bhubaneswar, enhancing connectivity between southern Odisha and the state capital. The announcement came during a special programme in Koraput district, where Majhi disbursed the third instalment of financial assistance under the Subhadra Yojana.

On the occasion, the CM also laid the foundation stone for 436 projects worth ₹452 crore and inaugurated 126 completed projects valued at ₹309.42 crore. Together, these initiatives represent a development push worth ₹762 crore across sectors including education, healthcare, roads, bridges, and tourism.

Majhi further declared that the defunct paper mill in Jeypore would be revived and a new college would be established in the town, both aimed at creating employment and improving higher education access in the region.

Calling the Subhadra Yojana “a ray of hope” for women who had to abandon their dreams due to financial hardships, the CM said the scheme has empowered lakhs of women to start or expand their businesses, turning government aid into self-reliance. “Subhadra is not just financial assistance—it is a tool for empowerment,” Majhi remarked.

He highlighted several special initiatives under the programme—Subhadra Plus, Subhadra Shakti Mela, Subhadra Kishori, Subhadra Sanchay, Subhadra Suraksha, and Subhadra Sakhi—which aim to foster entrepreneurship, promote savings, enhance safety, and develop leadership among women beneficiaries.

Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida also attended the event, praising the scheme’s positive impact on women’s lives. Parida noted that beneficiaries are increasingly using the funds to become financially independent, contributing to the state’s socio-economic growth.

With the Vande Bharat Express, large-scale development projects, and targeted welfare schemes, the Odisha government is signalling a dual focus on infrastructure growth and inclusive empowerment in Koraput district.
