ESIC to Build Five New Hospitals in Odisha

Plans Underway for Medical College; Over 15 Lakh Insured Workers by Year-End

Bhubaneswar: The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has announced plans to construct five new hospitals across Odisha to expand its healthcare infrastructure. These hospitals, each with a capacity of 100 beds, will be established in Duburi (Jajpur), Paradip, Balasore, Berhampur, and Jharsuguda, informed Rudradeep Dutta, Regional Director of ESIC.

According to Dutta, the hospital in Duburi is expected to be functional by 2027-28. Land acquisition for the Balasore and Berhampur projects is in its final stages, while land has already been acquired in Jharsuguda. For the Paradip facility, land identification is underway.

In addition, Dutta revealed that 25 acres of land have been earmarked in Andharua (Bhubaneswar) for the proposed ESIC Medical College and Hospital with 150 beds. The proposal is currently under review by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment.

During a strategic meeting held at the ESIC Regional Office, discussions were also held on ‘SPREE-2025’ and the ongoing “Rajkshama Yojana.” Speaking on the occasion, Pranay Sinha, Insurance Commissioner (East and Northeast Zones), highlighted that over 30,000 establishments and more than 10 lakh insured employees are currently covered under ESIC in Odisha.

As part of the SPREE-2025 initiative, launched in July, 519 new establishments and 43,000 new employees have already been registered. The scheme will continue until December this year. Officials expect the number of insured employees in Odisha to cross 15 lakh by the end of 2025. As the number of beneficiaries grows, the state stands to receive more support from the Centre, including additional hospitals and medical services, Sinha said.

The ESIC has also called upon unregistered employers and workers to join the scheme and avail its benefits. Under the Rajkshama Yojana-2025, the corporation aims to settle ongoing court cases outside of court, offering a one-time resolution opportunity. Sinha encouraged all eligible institutions and individuals to make the most of this year-long initiative.

Joint Director Mahendra Bhoi and other senior officials were present during the meeting, which also focused on strategies to boost healthcare access and awareness of social security schemes across the state.
