Odisha Emerges as a Key Investment Hub in Food Processing Sector

Over ₹6,500 Crore Investment Announced by 40+ Companies; Government Focuses on Cluster-Based Industrial Growth and Logistics Corridors

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has made significant strides in attracting investment in the food processing sector, with over 40 companies announcing plans to invest more than ₹6,500 crore in the state over the last few years. These companies are setting up units for food processing, packaged foods, seafood, dairy products, chocolates, beverages, and personal care items, said Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Director of IPICOL (Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited).

In an interview with ET, Poonia highlighted that reputed companies like ITC, Britannia, Parle Agro, Anmol Biscuits, Indo Nissin, and Nestlé have not only established their manufacturing units in Odisha but are also expanding operations. Odisha is now focusing on cluster-based industrial development through the creation of new industrial parks and dedicated infrastructure.

To enhance its competitiveness, the state is leveraging its ports, logistics parks, and skill development programs. “We aim to make Odisha the FMCG and processed food export hub of eastern India,” Poonia said.

The state’s Food Processing Policy 2022 has offered a range of incentives such as subsidies and freight assistance, making Odisha a favourable destination for investors. More than 1.5 lakh acres of land have been identified for industrial use, and dedicated food parks are being developed in Dhenkanal, Khordha, and Balasore.

Furthermore, under the PM Gati Shakti initiative, additional industrial parks are being developed with robust logistics infrastructure. To address industrial transportation needs, the government plans to build an industrial corridor connecting Paradip, Choudwar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Rourkela.

As part of the “Connect Odisha” campaign, multimodal logistics parks are being developed in eight strategic locations across the state to improve connectivity and boost industrial efficiency.

With these developments, Odisha is fast emerging as a prime destination for food processing and FMCG industries in India, offering both investment-friendly policies and integrated infrastructure support.
