Kalyani Steel’s Rs 11,750 Cr Aerospace Project Gains Momentum in Odisha

Land acquisition and statutory clearances underway for advanced manufacturing unit in Dhenkanal; project to generate over 10,000 jobs
Kalyani Steel Limited’s ambitious ₹11,750-crore aerospace and speciality steel plant in Odisha is gaining momentum, with key steps including land acquisition and forest clearance now in progress. Located in Gajamara, Dhenkanal district, the project represents a pivotal milestone in Odisha’s emergence as a hub for defence and high-tech manufacturing.
The mega facility is one of the largest private investments in Odisha’s industrial sector and is being positioned as a cornerstone in India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing roadmap. Signed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2024 during the BJD government, the project is now advancing toward the construction phase, pending final statutory approvals.
Once operational, the plant will produce advanced titanium components, speciality steels, and precision parts for aerospace, defence, and automotive applications—aligning with India’s strategic goals of self-reliance in critical sectors. The project is expected to create over 10,000 jobs, including direct employment for skilled professionals and indirect opportunities across ancillary industries.
Industry observers view the development as a major win for Odisha, underlining the state’s increasing attractiveness for capital-intensive, high-tech investments. It also marks Kalyani Steel’s foray into Odisha’s industrial landscape with its first defence-oriented manufacturing unit in the state.
The plant is anticipated to serve as a catalyst for regional economic growth, spurring the establishment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and ancillary units focused on logistics, component supply, and fabrication.
Local authorities and economic development officials have expressed optimism that the initiative will usher in socio-economic transformation in Dhenkanal, reinforcing Odisha’s role in India’s evolving advanced materials and defence manufacturing value chain.
As groundwork activities continue, the project stands as a testament to Odisha’s industrial readiness and the state’s strategic alignment with national defence manufacturing priorities under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
