CM Majhi Reviews Urban Projects to Decongest Twin City

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday led a high-level review of major urban infrastructure projects aimed at decongesting traffic and beautifying the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Twin City region. The meeting, held at Lok Seva Bhawan, focused on the progress and planning of key initiatives under the Works Department.
Among the flagship projects reviewed was the elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan, expected to significantly ease traffic flow along one of Bhubaneswar’s busiest routes. Additional upgrades include a new road along the Daya West Canal (Patia Station Chhak to Suanga Mouza) and the widening of the Sundarpada–Jatni road.
To further streamline urban mobility, the government has proposed three new flyovers at Kalpana Chhak, the State Museum, and Shishu Bhawan Chhak, along with an underpass at AG Chhak. Infrastructure plans also include a left parallel road from the Institute of Mathematics to Ekamra Kanan via Pathargadia, and three new right access roads: Damana to Press Chhak, Kalarahanga to Barimunda, and Kelucharan Park to Barimunda. An inner ring road is also under consideration to reduce pressure on the city center.
“These projects are vital not just for easing traffic but for elevating the overall urban experience of our capital region. We are committed to creating a smart, sustainable, and beautiful Twin City,” said Chief Minister Majhi.
A key highlight from the meeting was the state’s commitment to rehabilitate approximately 366 families affected by land acquisition. The government announced both financial aid and relocation support to ensure a humane and seamless transition.
The review was attended by several senior ministers and officials, including Works, Law, and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan; Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra; Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja; Development Commissioner Anu Garg; and Police Commissioner S. Devadatta Singh.
The session underscored the state’s push for integrated and coordinated urban development, positioning the Twin City as a model for future-ready infrastructure and citizen-centric governance.
