Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, is set to visit Odisha on April 17 and 19, 2025, to participate in key events and review progress on infrastructure projects. His visit is seen as part of the Centre’s ongoing efforts to boost development in the state under the “double engine” governance model.

On April 17, Minister Gadkari will attend a commemorative event at Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, marking the birth anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab, a prominent figure in Odisha’s history. He will be joined by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and State Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.

Following the celebration, the Union Minister will review ongoing National Highway projects with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). A key focus will be evaluating the progress of various infrastructure works aimed at enhancing road connectivity across the state.

On April 19, Gadkari is scheduled to attend a major event at Baramunda Ground in Bhubaneswar, where he will inaugurate several new National Highway projects. These developments are part of a broader push to transform Odisha’s transport network, linking rural and urban areas more efficiently and boosting regional trade.

Speaking ahead of the visit, BJP Vice President Golak Mohapatra emphasized the importance of the Centre’s role in Odisha’s development. “This is truly a golden period for the state. Union leadership is actively engaging with Odisha to fast-track development efforts. The arrival of key ministers like Nitin Gadkari shows the Centre’s commitment to Odisha’s progress,” he said.

He also pointed to the recent visit of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who launched the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in Odisha, as further evidence of the Central government’s focus on the state’s welfare and development.

The upcoming visit by Gadkari underscores the Centre’s continued engagement with Odisha across multiple sectors—ranging from health and education to road and highway infrastructure—paving the way for more inclusive and sustainable growth in the region.
