India experienced a series of earthquakes on Monday morning, with tremors felt in Delhi-NCR, Bihar, and Odisha, causing widespread panic among residents. The latest quake, measuring 4.7 in magnitude, struck Odisha’s Puri district at around 8:15 AM.

The back-to-back earthquakes have raised concerns about aftershocks, as all three tremors were recorded at magnitudes above 4.0. However, no casualties or damage have been reported so far.

Triple Earthquake Shakes India
The seismic activity began with a 4.0-magnitude earthquake in Delhi-NCR at 5:36 AM, centered in the Jheel Park area of Dhaula Kuan. Residents of high-rise buildings in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad rushed outdoors in fear.

Shortly after, at 8:02 AM, a 4.0-magnitude quake struck Siwan, Bihar, at a depth of 10 km, as confirmed by the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The strongest tremor of the day occurred at 8:15 AM in Odisha’s Puri district, measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale. This has heightened concerns, as the region is not typically prone to such significant seismic activity.

Authorities Urge Caution
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and local authorities have urged citizens to stay calm and follow safety measures in the wake of the tremors. “Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks,” Modi posted on X.

Delhi Police and Bihar’s disaster management authorities have advised residents to contact emergency helplines in case of distress. Meanwhile, Odisha officials are closely monitoring the situation in Puri to assess any potential risks.

Seismic Vulnerability & Expert Opinions
Delhi falls under Seismic Zone IV, making it highly susceptible to earthquakes. Odisha, while less prone to seismic activity, has previously recorded mild tremors. Bihar, located closer to the tectonic fault lines of the Himalayan belt, often experiences moderate quakes.

Experts warn that shallow earthquakes, like the ones recorded today, can cause significant impact if they occur in densely populated areas. Residents have been advised to remain alert and follow standard earthquake safety protocols.

As authorities continue to monitor the situation, experts suggest that these tremors could indicate increased seismic activity in the region. Citizens are urged to stay cautious and be prepared for potential aftershocks.
