Tata Power Invests ₹4,245 Crore in Odisha’s Power Infrastructure
Tata Power’s power distribution companies (discoms) have invested ₹4,245 crore over the past 3-4 years to expand and upgrade power infrastructure in Odisha, the company announced on Friday, July 12. This substantial investment has significantly improved the state’s power distribution network.
In 2022, the company had announced to invest Rs 6000 crore in Odisha in next five years.
Tata Power operates four discoms in joint ventures with the Odisha government: TP Central Odisha Distribution (TPCODL), TP Western Odisha Distribution (TPWODL), TP Southern Odisha Distribution (TPSODL), and TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL). These discoms collectively serve over nine million customers across the state.
A notable portion of the investment, ₹1,232 crore, was sourced from various government-backed schemes. These funds have been instrumental in laying 2,177 circuit kilometers (Ckm) of 33 kilovolt (KV) lines and 19,809 Ckm of 11 KV lines. Additionally, 30,230 distribution transformers have been added to enhance the reliability of the distribution network in both rural and urban areas.
The company has also commissioned 166 new primary substations (PSSs), with 55% of them being automated. These enhancements have led to improved power supply, with urban areas now receiving an average of 23.68 hours of power per day, while rural areas receive 21.98 hours, both figures surpassing national averages.
Moreover, these network improvements have contributed to a reduction in aggregate transmission and distribution (AT&C) losses, which averaged 17.79% in Odisha during the financial year 2023-24.
Tata Power’s commitment to investing in Odisha’s power infrastructure underscores its dedication to providing reliable and efficient power distribution, benefiting millions of residents across the state.
