Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the highly anticipated Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 and the accompanying Make in Odisha Exhibition today in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. In his keynote address, the Prime Minister highlighted the state’s burgeoning potential as an industrial and cultural hub, emphasizing its critical role in the nation’s progress.

A Milestone for Odisha’s Growth Journey
Noting the significance of this event, PM Modi referred to it as the largest-ever business summit hosted in Odisha. The 2025 edition of the conclave witnessed a five-to-six-fold increase in investor participation compared to previous years, reinforcing Odisha’s emergence as a prime destination for investment. Congratulating the Odisha government and its people for the event’s grandeur, the Prime Minister hailed the summit as a vital step in India’s push toward economic self-reliance and development.

“Odisha represents the aspirations of a New India,” said the Prime Minister. He praised the state’s progress across various industries, from food processing and textiles to mining and green energy, and commended Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi and his government for their proactive approach to fostering growth.

Reviving the Historical and Cultural Legacy
Prime Minister Modi underlined Odisha’s historic prominence as a hub of trade and culture in Eastern India and its deep connections to South East Asia. He highlighted the celebration of Bali Yatra and emphasized the remarks made by the President of Indonesia during a recent visit to India, noting that “there are traces of Odisha in his DNA.”

Further emphasizing the cultural ties, the Prime Minister mentioned the President of Singapore’s enthusiasm for stronger relationships with Odisha. He also pointed out ASEAN countries’ increasing interest in reviving historical trade connections with the state, calling it a reflection of Odisha’s renewed focus on its global heritage.

A Call to Investors: Odisha on the Rise
The Prime Minister assured investors that Odisha offered unmatched opportunities across sectors and an environment conducive to success. “Eastern India is a growth engine in the development of the country, and Odisha plays a key role in this,” he remarked, calling on the audience to capitalize on the moment to contribute to the state’s development journey.

He elaborated on Odisha’s significant strides in industries like food processing, petrochemicals, and IT. Special mention was made of industrial developments in Paradip and Gopalpur, both being developed as industrial parks with enormous potential. He commended the state’s strategic shift toward value addition in mineral and seafood production, aimed at establishing Odisha as a global manufacturing and export hub.

Building a Green and Sustainable Future
The Prime Minister outlined Odisha’s pivotal role in India’s green energy transition. Emphasizing the government’s focus on renewable energy technologies like solar, wind, hydro, and green hydrogen, Shri Modi called Odisha a frontrunner in green energy production. Recent policy decisions, such as the launch of national-level Green Hydrogen and Solar Power Missions, were highlighted as steps in creating a sustainable future powered by eco-friendly technologies.

He remarked on the exponential rise in green job opportunities and Odisha’s potential as a national leader in clean energy. These developments, coupled with extensive infrastructure expansion in railways, highways, and ports, position Odisha as a critical player in the blue economy and sustainable development.

Unveiling Odisha’s Tourism and Cultural Brilliance
Odisha’s rich tapestry of heritage and natural beauty took center stage as the Prime Minister invited the world to explore the state. “Odisha is a model of development and heritage,” he remarked, listing its iconic temples, vast forest covers, 500-kilometer-long coastline, and world-class eco-tourism potential.

PM Modi also highlighted India’s emerging sectors, such as the “Wed in India” and “Heal in India” initiatives, and how Odisha’s unique environment aligned seamlessly with these ambitions. He stressed the need to further develop infrastructure to tap into the rising demand for conference and concert tourism, industries that generate jobs and boost local economies.

Strengthening India’s Economic Foundation
Shifting focus to India’s global economic aspirations, PM Modi reiterated that the milestone of a $5 trillion economy was within reach, and Odisha would play a decisive role in achieving it. He commended the state for supporting India’s vision of a robust supply chain by focusing on building local ecosystems for manufacturing and innovation.

The Prime Minister emphasized collaboration between industries, MSMEs, and startups to create a vibrant research ecosystem. Special funding initiatives for internships, skill development, and innovation were announced, as part of an effort to make India a hub for global industrial excellence.

Vision 2047: Transforming Odisha and India
Closing his speech, Prime Minister Modi emphasized Odisha’s importance in building a prosperous, modern India. He described the state as a beacon of hope, opportunity, and innovation, expressing his personal admiration for Odisha’s people and culture. “The investments made by our partners here today will not only elevate their businesses but also take Odisha’s development to unprecedented heights,” he said.

With over 30 visits to the state during his tenure as Prime Minister, he pledged his commitment to supporting Odisha’s transformative journey.

The Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 is a flagship event of the Odisha government, designed to showcase the state as an anchor for India’s Purvodaya vision. Running from January 28-29, the two-day event features sectoral sessions, roundtables, policy discussions, and B2B meetings, creating a platform for investors and policymakers to converge and drive meaningful outcomes.

The Make in Odisha Exhibition, also inaugurated by the Prime Minister, celebrates the state’s achievements in creating a vibrant industrial ecosystem, reinforcing Odisha’s growing reputation as an economic powerhouse.
