The Jagatpur Industrial Estate, which is known as the oldest and largest industrial area in Odisha, is set to undergo a major upgrade. This estate is home to more than 500 industrial units and provides jobs to over 15,000 workers. The Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) has now set a three-month deadline to complete the ongoing development work in the area.

This decision was made during a meeting held to review the progress of the work. The Chairman of IDCO, Saswat Mishra, instructed officials to accelerate the pace of development and ensure that all planned tasks are completed within the next three months. According to sources, the upgrade and renovation work in Jagatpur has been going on for the past year, and several improvements are currently underway.

To fund these upgrades, a total of ₹57.77 crore has been sanctioned under the Industrial Infrastructure Development Fund (IIDF). The consultancy firm AGS has been hired to handle the planning and implementation of the entire project. Meanwhile, Balaji Engicons Ltd has been given the responsibility of carrying out the actual construction and development work.

The plan includes a complete revamp of the industrial estate. One of the main issues the area faces is water logging, especially during the rainy season. To address this, separate storm water drainage systems are being constructed to improve the flow of rainwater and prevent flooding. Additionally, new underground pipelines are being installed to carry liquid waste from the industrial units. These pipelines will help collect and treat industrial waste before it is released into the nearby Mahanadi River.

To ensure proper treatment of this waste, an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) will also be set up. This will help process the liquid waste in an environmentally friendly way, protecting both the river and the surrounding areas from pollution.

The development plan also includes several measures to improve the welfare of workers and boost security in the estate. Ten water vending machines will be installed at different locations within the industrial area. These machines will provide clean drinking water to the workers and staff. In addition to this, CCTV cameras will be placed across the estate to enhance safety and monitor activities within the premises.

So far, around Rs, 27 crore has already been spent on the ongoing work. The authorities are hopeful that the rest of the project will be completed on time and bring much-needed improvements to the estate.

The review meeting was attended by several important figures, including Odisha Industries Association Chairman Abani Kanungo, President Rajesh Kanungo, Secretary Devendra Sharma, Assistant Secretary Subhrakant Panda, and IDCO Cuttack Division Head Parikshita Mohalik.

Once completed, the upgraded Jagatpur Industrial Estate is expected to offer better infrastructure, a safer environment, and improved facilities for both workers and industrial unit owners.
