Tata Steel Chief Meets Odisha CM

Focus on New Investments and Strengthening Industrial Growth

Bhubaneswar: Tata Steel Managing Director, T.V. Narendran, met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan to explore areas of mutual cooperation and future investment opportunities in the state. The high-level meeting is seen as a significant step toward deepening the company’s footprint in Odisha, one of India’s fastest-growing industrial hubs.

During the meeting, Narendran highlighted Odisha’s strategic advantages—its abundant natural resources, strong mineral base, port connectivity, and supportive policies—which make it a preferred destination for large-scale industrial investments. Tata Steel, which has already established a strong presence in the state through its Kalinganagar plant in Jajpur district, expressed interest in expanding operations further to strengthen both production capacity and downstream industries.

While details of the talks remain confidential, sources indicated that discussions likely focused on expansion of the Kalinganagar facility, setting up value-added steel plants, and exploring opportunities in mining and allied sectors. Tata Steel’s emphasis on sustainability and green technology was also a key part of the discussion, aligning with Odisha’s vision for eco-friendly industrial development.

Chief Minister Majhi is learnt to have assured the Tata Steel delegation of the state government’s full support in facilitating industrial projects. He also stressed on the importance of generating employment for local youth and enhancing skill development opportunities. Tata Steel has already been engaged in several corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Odisha, including education, healthcare, and livelihood programmes. The company’s expansion plans are expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs across sectors.

The meeting underscored the Odisha government’s proactive approach to attracting investment and promoting industry-friendly policies. With global steel demand on the rise and India emerging as a key player, Odisha is positioning itself as a central hub for steel, mining, and downstream industries. Tata Steel’s partnership with the state is expected to further boost Odisha’s industrial ecosystem, benefiting ancillary industries and local communities.

Speaking after the meeting, T.V. Narendran reaffirmed Tata Steel’s long-term commitment to Odisha, noting that the company’s growth in the state has been made possible due to the government’s support and the state’s industrial potential. He emphasized that future collaborations would not only strengthen Tata Steel’s operations but also contribute significantly to Odisha’s economic development.
