President Murmu Urges Graduates to Pursue Science with Humanity at NISER’s Graduation Ceremony

President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, attended the 13th Graduation Ceremony of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Addressing the gathering, President Murmu lauded NISER’s rapid progress in the educational realm, emphasizing its alignment with both scientific rationality and traditional values.

In her speech, President Murmu highlighted the importance of utilizing education for humanity’s betterment and upliftment. She expressed confidence in the graduates’ potential to achieve excellence and urged them to fulfill their social responsibilities with accountability. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, she warned against the perils of “merciless science”—science devoid of sensitivity towards humanity.

President Murmu encouraged the students to maintain humility and a spirit of inquiry, urging them to view their knowledge as a means to societal and national development. She also touched on the dual nature of scientific advancements, noting that while technologies like CRISPR-Cas9 and Generative Artificial Intelligence offer immense potential, they also pose ethical and regulatory challenges.

Acknowledging the often lengthy and challenging path of fundamental scientific research, President Murmu advised students to remain patient and resilient, emphasizing that breakthroughs in basic research can have significant benefits in various fields.
