OMC MD Reviews Operations at Gandhamardan and Daitari Mines

Focus on production efficiency, safety, digital monitoring, and sustainable mining practices
Bhubaneswar : The Managing Director of Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. (OMC), Sudhansu Mohan Samal, carried out a strategic review of operations at the Gandhamardan and Daitari Iron Ore Mines in Keonjhar district. His visit centered on assessing production efficiency, workforce welfare, digital surveillance, and sustainable mining practices to ensure the corporation meets its annual output and dispatch targets.
Accompanied by Director (HR) Alok Kumar Pal, Director (Finance) Bana Bihari Pani, and senior officials, the MD inspected critical areas at the Gandhamardan Mines, including the Ore Stock Area, Quarry, and Control Command Centre.
Samal directed teams to enhance production output to meet the state’s industrial demands while adhering to environmental guidelines. He underscored the importance of eliminating pilferage, adopting sustainable mining techniques, and maintaining strict compliance with environmental standards.
At the Control Command Centre, Samal examined the mine’s digital surveillance systems and called for upgrades to improve real-time monitoring, safety oversight, and operational transparency. He also assessed employee welfare facilities and reaffirmed OMC’s commitment to ensuring worker safety, health, and well-being.
During his visit to the Daitari mines, Samal conducted an extensive review of multiple facilities, including the Quarry, Ore Handling Plant (OHP), Baliparbat Ore Stockyard, and Daitari Railway Siding (DRS).
He emphasized the need for uninterrupted quarry operations in compliance with mining regulations and called for advanced mechanisation at the OHP to enhance productivity. At the Baliparbat Ore Stockyard, he instructed officials to strengthen systematic stacking, proper grade segregation, and digital tracking to optimize ore handling and dispatch processes.
At the Daitari Railway Siding, the MD highlighted the importance of efficient ore evacuation through improved logistics coordination and faster rake loading. He stressed that timely delivery of ore to industries is critical for supporting Odisha’s mineral-based economy.
Throughout his inspections, Samal highlighted the need for aligning production targets with environmental responsibility and innovation. He urged teams to adopt a balanced approach that not only ensures economic growth but also safeguards ecological systems.
“OMC’s vision is not limited to meeting dispatch targets but also to build long-term value through sustainable and responsible mining,” he told the teams. He further emphasized strengthening accountability at all levels to ensure transparency and efficiency in operations.
Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. is one of India’s largest state-owned mining companies, operating 19 mines across the state. The corporation produces chrome, iron, and bauxite ore, supplying crucial raw materials to key mineral-based industries such as steel, sponge iron, pig iron, aluminium, ferro-manganese, and ferro-chrome.
