Odisha to Build Modern Science City in Bhubaneswar by 2036

New project to boost scientific learning and support ‘Viksit Odisha’ vision
The Odisha government has announced an exciting new project — a world-class Science City will be built in the capital city of Bhubaneswar by the year 2036. This major step aims to promote scientific education, innovation, and public engagement with science.
Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra shared the plan, stating that the Science City will play a key role in Odisha’s long-term vision of becoming a developed state, ‘Viksit Odisha’ by 2036. The initiative is expected to inspire future generations, create awareness about science and technology, and encourage scientific thinking among students and the public.
The upcoming Science City will be equipped with interactive exhibits, advanced science labs, a planetarium, digital learning spaces, and research zones. It will offer visitors hands-on experiences to explore various fields like space, environment, robotics, biology, and more.
The government also plans to include fun and educational attractions such as 3D theatres, science parks, and technology museums to attract students, researchers, and tourists alike. The goal is to make science accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages.
Minister Patra emphasized that the Science City will not only support education but also contribute to Odisha’s economic and technological growth. “It will be a place where young minds can dream, discover, and design the future. Science and innovation are at the heart of any developed society, and this project will take Odisha closer to its ‘Viksit Odisha’ goal,” he said.
The project is expected to be developed in phases with support from the central government and partnerships with scientific institutions and industry experts.
Citizens and educators have welcomed the announcement, calling it a timely move to strengthen science education in the state. Many believe this will spark greater interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields among school and college students.
With planning now underway, Odisha’s Science City is expected to become a major landmark in the state – a place that inspires curiosity, learning, and innovation for generations to come.
