Odisha to Bring EV Policy Soon: Singhdeo

State to strengthen green energy infrastructure under PM’s vision for a sustainable future
Odisha is taking big steps toward a cleaner and greener future by boosting infrastructure for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and solar power generation, and the state is prepping up to bring its own EV policy soon, Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singhdeo recently said.
Speaking at a meeting held at Lok Seva Bhavan, Singhdeo said the state is aligning itself with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India a global leader in renewable energy. “Odisha is playing an active role in the country’s green energy mission. To build a Viksit Odisha, we must focus more on renewable sources like solar energy and electric mobility,” he added.
He also shared that under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, solar panels will be installed on rooftops with government subsidies, and efforts are underway to build EV charging stations across the state. To support this, a new Odisha EV Policy will be launched soon, he announced.
During the meeting, representatives from Sarvotech, a company working in solar power and EV infrastructure, presented their plans and proposals to support Odisha’s green energy goals. They showcased potential projects to enhance EV charging infrastructure and solar energy systems in both urban and rural areas.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted Odisha’s strong performance in the power sector. “Three of Odisha’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs) are ranked among the top 10 in India, and another one is in the top 15. This reflects the state’s commitment to providing reliable electricity,” he said. He also mentioned that Uttar Pradesh has shown interest in adopting Odisha’s power distribution model.
Key officials who attended the meeting included Principal Secretary of Finance Department Saswat Kumar Mishra, Gridco MD Trilochan Panda, and Sarvotech MD Raman Bhatia, along with senior officials from Tata Power and the Energy Department.
This move toward expanding solar power and EV stations is seen as a major push for sustainable development in Odisha. With rising fuel prices and growing awareness of climate change, the shift to green energy is expected to not only protect the environment but also generate new jobs and investment opportunities in the state.
The meeting marks the beginning of Odisha’s renewed focus on clean energy infrastructure, with more projects likely to be announced in the coming months.
