Odisha Police to Use AI-Powered Drones for Rath Yatra Management
The Odisha Police is set to introduce AI-powered technology for the first time to manage traffic during the upcoming Rath Yatra, marking a significant technological advancement in the event’s history. In partnership with Odisha-based leading drone tech and AI company IG Drones, supported by StartUp Odisha, this initiative aims to enhance traffic and crowd management with advanced capabilities like congestion detection, vehicle counting, and real-time updates.
Technological Integration:
Odisha Police will utilize five Jaga drones equipped with public announcement systems for real-time crowd management and public safety. These drones, inspired by Lord Jagannath and built by IG Drones, feature high-resolution cameras and advanced sensors for precise data collection and real-time surveillance. A network of fifty-five CCTV cameras, complemented by five additional drones to cover blind spots, will provide comprehensive citywide surveillance.
Innovative Solutions:
For the first time, Odisha Police will introduce a WhatsApp ChatBot for real-time traffic monitoring and updates, aiming to facilitate efficient navigation for the public. Real-time traffic updates will also be displayed on LED vans across the city, and augmented animated videos will guide traffic routes, minimizing congestion during the Rath Yatra.
Comprehensive Safety Measures:
The initiative includes a detailed mobility plan to manage crowds during key phases of the Yatra, such as Gundicha, Bahuda, and Sunabesh. Multiple high-capacity parking lots will be provided, and real-time parking space information will be available to drivers. A dedicated team of experts will monitor drone operations and coordinate emergency responses in real-time.
Public Engagement:
Traffic updates, motion videos, and real-time activities will be actively shared on social media platforms. A dedicated helpline (73816-90900) will be available 24×7 to provide real-time updates from the Traffic Command Center, supporting public assistance and queries during the Rath Yatra.
Security Deployment:
A robust security force comprising 4 Commandants, 7 DCs/Addl. SPs, 19 DSPs/Assistant Commandants, 55 Inspectors/Sub Inspectors, 337 SIs/ASIs, 46 Havildars, 12 Tr. Havildars, 402 Constables, 78 Tr. Constables, and 1300 HGs will be deployed. Strict enforcement of no-vehicle zones along the Grand Road and from Hospital Crossing to Subash Bose Crossing will further ensure safety and streamline traffic flow.
Traffic Advisory:
According to the official traffic advisory, heavy traffic inflow is anticipated, and a traffic mobility plan with parking arrangements for around 500 buses, 5000 LMVs, and 20000 two-wheelers has been prepared. Contingency measures are in place for excessive vehicle inflow. Vehicular traffic regulation will be imposed from midnight on 06.07.2024 to midnight on 09.07.2024 and from midnight on 14.07.2024 to midnight on 16.07.2024.
Speaking on the arrangements, Shri Dayal Gangwar, IPS, ADG Odisha Police, stated, “We are proud to announce this groundbreaking implementation of AI-powered technology for the auspicious Jagannath Rath Yatra. This marks a historic first in our unwavering commitment to public safety and efficient traffic management. Cutting-edge solutions like real-time congestion detection, vehicle counting, and drone surveillance will be seamlessly integrated with our CCTV network, providing invaluable insights for smoother traffic flow and crowd control.”
These innovative measures underscore Odisha Police’s commitment to transforming traffic management and enhancing public safety during the Rath Yatra, demonstrating the transformative impact of technology in creating a safer and more efficient environment for all.
