CM Mohan Charan Majhi says Odisha is moving towards high-precision defence manufacturing after successful Hyderabad roadshow
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the state is preparing to build a strong defence manufacturing ecosystem, marking a major shift towards high-value and strategic industries. The announcement comes after a highly successful two-day investment roadshow held in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister said Odisha is now focusing on advanced manufacturing, defence startups, MSMEs, and high-precision engineering, with plans already underway to begin manufacturing missile components within the state.
Defence Manufacturing Becomes New Focus Area for Odisha
Speaking to the media, CM Majhi said Odisha wants to play a key role in India’s defence and strategic production network. He noted that defence manufacturing, which was earlier a limited sector in the state, is now drawing strong interest from national and global players.
“As part of our long-term industrial vision, we are preparing Odisha to manufacture high-end defence equipment, including missile components,” the Chief Minister said.
Strategic Engagement with Bharat Dynamics Limited
During the Hyderabad roadshow, the Odisha delegation visited Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), one of India’s leading defence equipment manufacturers. The visit aimed to explore collaboration opportunities in defence and space-related manufacturing.
Officials said the discussions focused on supply-chain partnerships, component manufacturing, and technology-driven production that could be set up in Odisha.

During the roadshow:
- Meetings were held with 27 defence-related companies

“This shows a promising change in Odisha’s industrial landscape,” Majhi said, adding that investors are now looking beyond traditional sectors.

“Industrialists now clearly see Odisha’s strong infrastructure, stable policies, and future-ready growth model,” he said.
Odisha Aims to Become India’s Major Investment Hub
