Odisha Launches Godabarish Adarsha Vidyalaya Scheme to Transform Rural Education
CM Unveils Logo; First Phase to Upgrade 2,200 Schools with Modern Classrooms, Digital Learning and Sports Infrastructure
Bhubaneswar: Odisha has taken a major stride toward reshaping its school education system with the unveiling of the Godabarish Adarsha Vidyalaya scheme logo by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. The initiative, described as one of the state’s most ambitious education reforms, aims to revitalise primary schooling and expand access to quality learning across rural Odisha.
Under the first phase of the scheme, 2,200 schools will be strengthened with an investment of nearly Rs 12,000 crore over the next four years. The programme focuses on modernising classrooms, introducing digital learning tools, enhancing sports facilities and creating an environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking and overall personality development. The government believes this comprehensive upgrade will help bridge the rural–urban education gap and set a new benchmark for public schooling.
Chief Minister Majhi said the Godabarish Model Schools would “make education modern, attractive and impactful,” adding that the scheme embodies Odisha’s cultural pride and the teachings of renowned educationist Pandit Godabarish Mishra. The newly launched logo visually represents these ideals, featuring layered symbolism that reflects the scheme’s core mission.
At the centre of the design sits an open book paired with a pen nib, symbolising knowledge, learning and creativity. Above them rises a torch signifying truth and enlightenment, while radiating lines convey moral and intellectual illumination. The circular frame represents unity and inclusiveness, and the three stars along its rim denote the values of knowledge, character and service. The use of Odia script in the emblem reinforces the state’s commitment to preserving linguistic identity while advancing educational excellence.
According to the implementation framework, each model school will be established in gram panchayats with a minimum of five acres of land and reliable road connectivity. Priority will be given to centrally located villages that can easily serve neighbouring communities. The government expects this approach to create a strong educational backbone in rural regions, giving students access to facilities that match or exceed those available in urban schools.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond described the initiative as a “transformative leap,” emphasising that it represents not just a reform but a commitment to ensuring equitable, high-quality education for all children. He noted that the scheme aligns with Odisha’s broader vision of strengthening human capital by investing in foundational learning.
The launch event was attended by several senior officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Saswata Mishra and Commissioner-cum-Secretary Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, underscoring the high priority the state has placed on the programme.
With its blend of cultural inspiration, modern infrastructure and inclusive planning, the Godabarish Adarsha Vidyalaya scheme is set to become a cornerstone of Odisha’s educational future—promising to uplift rural schools and empower the next generation of learners across the state.
