Odisha CM Reviews Renovation Progress at Kalinga Studio

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announces near-completion of studio upgrade; plans underway to transform site into a full-fledged film city
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday reviewed the near-completion of the ambitious renovation project at Kalinga Studio in Bhubaneswar, signaling the state government’s renewed push to position Odisha as a hub for the film industry. Nearly 90–95% of the revamp work, which began in 2021–22, has now been completed, the Chief Minister confirmed during his visit.
The iconic studio, once a cultural landmark, is undergoing a major transformation to meet modern cinematic standards. CM Majhi’s inspection follows a request from members of the Cine Arts Association, who urged the government to take further steps toward developing the facility into a full-fledged film city.
“The studio has been upgraded in line with contemporary film production needs,” said the Chief Minister. “I have directed officials to prepare a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) that will include additional infrastructure such as a police station, temple, hospital, village set, and court set to support diverse shooting requirements.”
The Odisha Small Industries Corporation (OSIC), which is executing the renovation, estimated the cost at ₹2.13 crore. Key improvements already completed include:
Refurbishment of green rooms and cottages
Repairs to boundary walls
Water supply system upgrades
Installation of transformers and construction of a pump house and overhead tank
Renovation of indoor shooting floors
Landscaping and garden beautification
Creation of permanent sets such as village scenes and slum environments
Once completed, the studio is expected to host both regional and national productions, offering comprehensive infrastructure that caters to a wide range of cinematic needs.
The Chief Minister announced that the formal inauguration of the upgraded facility will be held soon, followed by an action plan to attract film shoots and production houses.
The initiative aligns with Odisha’s broader vision to promote its creative economy and cultural heritage, while also generating employment and tourism opportunities through film and media production.
