Odisha Clears ₹710 Crore Floating Solar Project by NTPC-SAIL to Boost Renewable Energy Capacity
State approves major green power investment in Sundargarh, signalling a stronger push toward clean energy and job creation
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has approved a ₹710.27-crore floating solar power project by NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd in Sundargarh district, marking a major step in the state’s clean-energy expansion. The approval was granted during the 142nd meeting of the State-Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA).
Floating Solar Project to Add Significant Green Capacity
The floating solar project is among the largest renewable energy ventures cleared this year. Officials stated that the project will help Odisha expand its renewable energy portfolio and strengthen long-term energy sustainability. It is expected to contribute significantly to the state’s solar power capacity while allowing efficient use of water surfaces.
Employment and Local Development Benefits
Beyond supporting green energy goals, the project is set to generate employment opportunities and boost local infrastructure in Sundargarh district. Odisha aims to use such sustainable investments to attract more clean-tech developers and broaden its industrial landscape.
Part of a Larger Push for Industrial Growth
This solar initiative is part of a broader package of 20 industrial projects recently approved across 11 districts, with a total investment of ₹4,353 crore. These projects span renewable energy, minerals processing, IT services, food processing, and tourism. Among them, the ₹710-crore NTPC-SAIL floating solar plant stands out as a flagship renewable energy commitment for the 2025–26 period.
Strong Momentum in Odisha’s Renewable Energy Plans
The state has been consistently expanding its renewable energy infrastructure by approving multiple solar and wind projects in recent months. These efforts align with Odisha’s long-term energy transition goals and its strategy to reduce dependence on conventional sources.
With the approval of the NTPC-SAIL floating solar project, Odisha reinforces its commitment to clean energy, sustainability, and inclusive economic growth. As implementation begins, the project is expected to boost renewable power generation, create jobs, support local communities, and contribute to the state’s vision of environmentally responsible industrial development.
