New Railway Line Approved Between Ranital and Bhadrak to Boost Connectivity

Bhubaneswar: In a key move to enhance railway infrastructure in Odisha, the Ministry of Railways has approved the construction of a fourth railway line between Ranital Link Cabin and Bhadrak station, covering a 5.06 km stretch. The project will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹149.32 crore.
This new line is strategically located on the Howrah–Chennai High-Density Network (HDN)—one of the busiest railway corridors in the country. The addition is expected to ease congestion by separating freight and passenger train movement, especially benefitting goods trains heading towards Dhamra and Paradeep ports.
Currently, the existing lines face frequent bottlenecks, causing delays to passenger and express trains. The fourth line will allow better traffic management, ensure improved punctuality, and enable faster travel between Kharagpur and Bhubaneswar.
East Coast Railway officials stated that the project is part of a broader plan to transform Odisha’s railway system into a world-class transport network. Once completed, it will enhance freight capacity and strengthen the state’s position as a logistics hub in eastern India.
