Jindal Steel to Build World’s Largest Steel Plant in Odisha
Jindal Steel and Power (JSP) has announced plans to build the world’s largest steel plant in Angul, Odisha, by 2030. Chairman Naveen Jindal shared this ambitious vision during a meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday.
JSP is currently working on expanding its Angul steel-making facility, aiming to double its capacity from 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 12 MTPA by next year. “We will build the world’s largest steel plant in Angul in the next six years,” Jindal stated, highlighting the company’s commitment to Odisha’s industrial growth.
A delegation from the Indian Steel Association (ISA), led by Lok Sabha MP and JSP chairman Naveen Jindal, met with the Chief Minister. This delegation included major steel manufacturers from Odisha, who expressed optimism about the steel industry’s future under the new government.
During the meeting, Jindal discussed Odisha’s pivotal role in the Indian steel industry, owing to its rich mineral resources and strategic location. He also emphasized the importance of adopting green energy and sustainable practices in the steel sector. The conversation covered potential opportunities for expanding the steel industry further, focusing on manufacturing special grade and green steel, which would significantly contribute to the state’s economic development.
Industry leaders highlighted the necessity of infrastructure growth and sustainable projects, such as slurry pipelines, to bolster the sector. “JSP is committed to Odisha’s industrial and economic development and will work in partnership with the government to achieve that goal,” Jindal affirmed.
In addition to his industrial commitments, Jindal visited educational and skill development centers including CV Raman Global University, the Gram Tarang project of Centurion University, and the World Skill Centre. He praised Odisha’s skill development initiatives, noting, “The rest of India can learn a lot from Odisha. The skilling centres are running excellent skill development initiatives that can empower our youth.”
This strategic move by JSP not only signifies a major boost to Odisha’s industrial landscape but also underscores the state’s growing significance in India’s steel production capabilities.
