Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Lays Foundation Stone for Advanced Ferro Chrome Plant

In a significant boost to Odisha’s industrial landscape, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi today laid the foundation stone for Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys Ltd’s (IMFA) new state-of-the-art ferro chrome plant at Kalinga Nagar, Jajpur. The move marks a pivotal step in expanding the state’s presence in value-added metals production.

The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including Industries Minister Shri Sampad Chandra Swain, Co-operation Minister Shri Pradeep Bal Samanta, Jajpur MP Shri Rabindra Narayan Behera, and MLAs Akash Das Nayak and Amar Nayak, along with senior executives from IMFA. Founded by late industrialist Dr. Bansidhar Panda, IMFA has been a cornerstone of Odisha’s industrial growth since its inception.

The upcoming facility will span 124.26 acres and have an annual production capacity of 100,000 metric tonnes of ferro chrome. With Phase 1 slated for completion by the first quarter of FY 2026–27, the new plant will incorporate cutting-edge smelting technologies and bolster IMFA’s total capacity to 3,84,000 tonnes per annum. It will also complement the company’s existing operations at Choudwar and Therubali.

Speaking at the event, IMFA Managing Director Shri Subhrakant Panda said, “This expansion reflects our unwavering commitment to Odisha’s industrial progress. The new plant will not only strengthen IMFA’s leadership in the ferro chrome sector but also contribute significantly to sustainable growth and innovation in the state.”

In a strong move towards environmental sustainability, IMFA has partnered with JSW Green Energy to supply 110 MW of hybrid renewable energy to the Kalinga Nagar facility. This green initiative will power the smelting process, drastically reducing the plant’s carbon footprint and aligning with India’s broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

The project stands as a model of industrial advancement aligned with ecological responsibility, showcasing Odisha’s readiness to lead India’s green industrial transformation.
