Hindalco to Invest ₹200 Crore in Apparel Units in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In a major push for industrial development and employment generation in Odisha, Hindalco Industries Ltd, a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, has committed to invest ₹200 crore to set up apparel manufacturing units in Keonjhar and Sambalpur districts.
The investment plan was formalised through two separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed with the Odisha government during the Odisha TEX 2025 event on Friday. The signing took place in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The MoUs were exchanged between B.S. Poonia, Principal Secretary of the Skill Development and Technical Education Department, and Ardhendu Mahapatra, President (Corporate Affairs) of Hindalco Industries.
According to the MoUs, Hindalco will set up textile units in both Keonjhar and Sambalpur, with ₹100 crore allocated for each district. These projects are expected to generate 2,400 direct employment opportunities, further strengthening the textile and apparel ecosystem in the state.
This move will mark Hindalco’s third and fourth textile manufacturing units in Odisha. The company’s apparel manufacturing unit at Mancheswar is already operational, while another unit is under construction at Kanshariguda near the Aditya alumina refinery in Rayagada district. The Rayagada unit is expected to employ around 3,000 local women once it becomes functional.
“This investment further strengthens Hindalco’s footprint in Odisha. The company is committed to generating additional employment opportunities in the state through continued collaboration with the government,” Hindalco said in a statement.
Odisha’s growing focus on skill development and industrial infrastructure is attracting major investments in non-metal sectors, such as textiles and garments. The state government aims to position Odisha as a leading textile hub in eastern India.
Minister for Industries and Skill Development Sampad Chandra Swain, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles Pradeep Bal Samant, and other senior government officials were present during the signing ceremony. The partnership is seen as a model for industry-government collaboration to promote inclusive growth.
The new units are expected to not only boost the local economy but also provide livelihood opportunities to thousands of skilled and semi-skilled workers, particularly women, in western and northern Odisha.
