Coratia Technologies Secures ₹5 Crore Funding to Boost Underwater Robotics Innovation
Startup eyes global expansion after major Indian Navy contract; aims to make Odisha a hub for deep-tech manufacturing
Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s homegrown deep-tech startup Coratia Technologies has raised ₹5 crore (approximately USD 563,000) in a new funding round led by Piper Serica Angel Fund. The fresh capital infusion will accelerate the company’s mission to strengthen India’s presence in the global underwater robotics sector.
The funds will be utilised to expand in-house research and development, enhance manufacturing capabilities, upgrade existing product lines, and tap into international markets, the company said in a statement.
Strengthening India’s Underwater Capabilities
Founded in 2021 by Debendra Pradhan and Biswajit Swain, Coratia Technologies has emerged as one of India’s most promising startups in the field of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Its innovations serve both defence and civilian sectors, with a special focus on indigenous design and affordability.
The startup recently made headlines after securing a ₹66-crore contract from the Indian Navy for its flagship Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (UWROV), named Jalasimha. Designed for deep-sea surveillance, inspection, and recovery missions, Jalasimha highlights India’s growing self-reliance in maritime technology.
Coratia’s product lineup also includes Jaladuta, Oceanus, and Navya — robotic systems designed for subsea research, infrastructure maintenance, and industrial applications.
Investor Confidence and Strategic Vision
Commenting on the investment, Ajay Modi, Director of Investments at Piper Serica, said, “Coratia is redefining underwater robotics and reinforcing India’s position as a technology leader. Their partnership with the Indian Navy underlines their immense potential.”
The investment comes as part of Piper Serica’s broader focus on supporting high-impact deep-tech ventures that combine innovation, manufacturing scalability, and strategic relevance to national security.
Co-founder and CEO Debendra Pradhan said the new funding will help the company expand its R&D ecosystem and international reach. “This funding empowers our mission to establish India as a global hub for underwater robotics,” he said.
Co-founder and CTO Biswajit Swain added, “We’re engineering systems that deliver world-class performance and reliability at a fraction of global costs. This gives India a technological and economic edge in the underwater domain.”
Global Reach and Growing Partnerships
Coratia has successfully executed projects with Indian Railways and IOCL Paradip, and recently demonstrated its underwater robotics capabilities in Brunei Darussalam for subsea infrastructure operations.
The startup’s growing credibility is backed by a diverse investor network. Earlier this year, MGF Kavachh and Pontaq Ventures jointly invested ₹17 crore in Coratia, further validating its market potential and innovation-led growth model.
From Odisha to the World
Headquartered in Odisha, Coratia Technologies was incubated at NIT Rourkela’s FTBI and STPI Bhubaneswar’s Electropreneur Park. It has received multiple recognitions from MeitY, NASSCOM, Boeing BUILD 3.0, and Cochin Shipyard’s USHUS Program.
The company gained national attention after featuring on Shark Tank India Season 3, where it secured an investment deal from Ritesh Agarwal, founder of OYO.
With its mix of indigenous innovation, defence partnerships, and global outreach, Coratia Technologies exemplifies how startups from emerging ecosystems like Odisha are taking Indian technology to new depths — both literally and figuratively.
