Government university, medical college, and ₹6,600 crore in private investments position Bhadrak as an emerging growth hub

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Monday launched and laid foundation stones for 13 major public welfare projects worth approximately ₹275 crore in Baliapada, Bhadrak district, underscoring the state government’s commitment to regional development and inclusive growth.

Of the total, nine projects were inaugurated while foundation stones were laid for four others, covering sectors such as healthcare, education, sports, roads, and public amenities. These include upgrades to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, construction of a new library, a public park in memory of Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab, and improved road connectivity and sports facilities.

Educational and Industrial Push

In a significant boost to higher education, CM Majhi announced the establishment of a government university in Bhadrak — addressing a long-standing demand of the local youth. He also confirmed that a new medical college for the district is in the pipeline, with the foundation stone to be laid shortly.

On the industrial front, Majhi unveiled two high-impact investment projects:

  • Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) will invest ₹4,377 crore to set up a Technical Textile Complex, expected to create over 4,300 jobs.
  • MCPI Private Limited will invest ₹2,223.25 crore in a High Modulus Low Shrinkage (HMLS) polyester manufacturing unit, generating 1,150 jobs.

These projects form the backbone of a broader Textile Park initiative and are expected to elevate Bhadrak as a key industrial centre in eastern India.

CM Majhi also announced the beautification of all Shaheed Peeths (martyr memorials) in Bhadrak, aiming to preserve and honour the district’s rich legacy of sacrifice and patriotism.

Reviewing a Year of Governance

Highlighting his government’s performance, the Chief Minister cited several landmark initiatives undertaken in the past year:

  • Launch of the Subhadra Yojana within 24 minutes of taking office
  • ₹800/quintal hike in paddy procurement price
  • Opening of all four gates at the Shree Jagannath Temple
  • ₹500 crore corpus fund allocation for temple development

“These are just a glimpse. We will present a detailed performance report to the people on June 12,” he said.

Sending a strong message to political opponents, Majhi said the past 24 years were marked by “cosmetic development” and superficial schemes. He promised a complete overhaul of Odisha’s primary education system, replacing the 5T initiative with a focus on tangible improvements in school infrastructure, teaching quality, and student outcomes.

Majhi revealed that his administration has already initiated projects worth over ₹80,000 crore in just 120 days, with another ₹1.65 lakh crore cleared on June 22. “Our vision is to take this industrial revolution to every district — Bhadrak is at the heart of this transformation,” he asserted.

Vision 2036: A Prosperous Odisha

Reiterating his vision for a Prosperous Odisha by 2036, Majhi said, “Bhadrak will play a pivotal role in this mission. We are determined to make it one of the most developed districts in the state.”

The event was attended by Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, MP Abhimanyu Sethi, MLAs Ashok Das, Padmalochan Panda, Sitansu Sekhar Mohapatra, and former minister Manmohan Samal. Bhadrak District Collector Dillip Rautray expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their active participation.
