CM Majhi Visits Odisha Niwas in Delhi, Calls for Promotion of Odia Cuisine

Emphasizes cultural outreach and improved facilities to better represent Odisha in the national capital
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi paid an official visit to Odisha Niwas and the Office of the Chief Resident Commissioner in New Delhi on Tuesday, as part of his broader initiative to strengthen Odisha’s representation and visibility at the national level.
During the visit, CM Majhi interacted warmly with staff and residents, while also conducting a comprehensive review of the facilities and services currently available at the premises. Emphasizing functionality and aesthetics, the Chief Minister directed officials to begin renovation work in the basement office to enhance its efficiency and create a more welcoming environment for visitors and officials alike.
Calling Odisha Niwas a symbolic extension of the state in the heart of India’s capital, CM Majhi underlined the importance of maintaining high standards at all government facilities outside the state, especially those frequented by both Odia citizens and guests from across the country.
A special focus of the visit was the canteen, where the Chief Minister championed the promotion of authentic Odia cuisine. He instructed officials to serve traditional Odia dishes to cater to the large Odia diaspora residing in Delhi-NCR, while also showcasing the state’s rich culinary heritage to non-Odia guests.
“At the canteen, he encouraged promoting authentic Odia cuisine to serve the Odia diaspora in Delhi-NCR and attract non-Odia guests to experience Odisha’s culinary heritage,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Odisha, posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The Chief Minister’s remarks reflect a strategic cultural outreach, aimed at not only preserving Odisha’s identity among Odias living outside the state but also introducing the state’s unique flavors, traditions, and hospitality to a broader national audience.
This visit is seen as part of the Odisha government’s renewed focus on representation, accessibility, and cultural diplomacy, ensuring that government offices and guest houses like Odisha Niwas serve as cultural ambassadors and service hubs for Odias away from home.
CM Majhi’s engagement at Odisha Niwas sends a clear message about the importance of bridging administrative services with cultural pride, reaffirming the state’s commitment to strengthening its footprint beyond geographic boundaries.
