Bhubaneswar : In a major move to strengthen affordable housing for economically weaker sections (EWS), the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HDFC Bank. The partnership will facilitate housing loans for eligible beneficiaries under the Affordable Housing Scheme, bringing them closer to owning a home.
The MoU signing ceremony took place in the presence of Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das, BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana, and senior officials from BMC and HDFC Bank.

Minister Dr. Mohapatra praised HDFC Bank for its proactive approach in supporting underprivileged communities. He encouraged continued collaboration for the implementation of this and other key housing schemes launched by the State and Central Governments.
Mayor Sulochana Das and Commissioner Chanchal Rana expressed gratitude to HDFC Bank and underlined BMC’s efforts to make the loan facilitation process simpler and more accessible for eligible applicants. Commissioner Rana reaffirmed BMC’s full support in ensuring smooth implementation of the project, aligning with the broader goal of making Bhubaneswar an inclusive and aspirational city.
Senior HDFC Bank officials reiterated that the signing of the MoU underscores the bank’s dedication to social responsibility. They emphasized that structured financial support through such partnerships can significantly improve the lives of low-income families.
The event concluded with a shared commitment between BMC and HDFC Bank to uplift economically weaker communities through strong public-private collaboration. This initiative is expected to ease home loan access for many urban poor families and contribute to the larger mission of affordable housing for all.
