Avaada Group, a key player in renewable energy and green hydrogen, has joined forces with Switzerland-based Casale to develop a 1,500 tons per day (TPD) green ammonia plant in Gopalpur, Odisha. The facility will be entirely powered by renewable energy, marking a major step in India’s push toward sustainable industrial development and Net Zero goals, the company said in a statement.

Casale, a global expert in ammonia technology, will contribute its Green Ammonia Process License, Basic Engineering Package, Proprietary Equipment, and Detailed Engineering review for the project. With this collaboration, Casale has now licensed a total green ammonia capacity of 5,700 TPD in India.

The announcement follows Avaada’s recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha government. As part of its commitment to renewable energy, Avaada plans to invest ₹20,700 crore to develop 1,500 MW of floating solar projects, two pumped hydro storage plants (1,000 MW), and green energy equipment manufacturing units in the state.

Driving Innovation in Green Ammonia
Vineet Mittal, Chairman of Avaada Group, highlighted the partnership’s significance, stating, “By collaborating with Casale, we are bringing world-class technology to India, setting new benchmarks in sustainable ammonia production. This initiative will play a crucial role in decarbonizing industrial processes and strengthening India’s energy security.”

Federico Zardi, CEO of Casale, added, “We are excited to support Avaada in this transformative project. Our advanced ammonia technology will enable efficient and carbon-free production, further reinforcing India’s leadership in green chemistry.”

A Catalyst for Sustainable Growth
The Gopalpur green ammonia plant is expected to drive both economic and environmental benefits, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and enhancing India’s industrial sustainability. This initiative aligns with Avaada’s broader ambition to achieve 11 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2026.

The company has also attracted significant investment, securing $1 billion from Brookfield’s Energy Transition Fund and $300 million from Thailand’s PTT Group subsidiary GPSC in 2023.

With this project, Avaada and Casale are not only advancing India’s clean energy ambitions but also positioning the country as a global leader in green industrial solutions.
