Amazon Expands Operations in Odisha with New Fulfilment Centre

E-commerce giant aims to double delivery speed, onboard more sellers, and generate jobs through enhanced logistics network in the state

Bhubaneswar : Amazon India has taken a major step to strengthen its footprint in eastern India with the launch of a new fulfilment centre in Odisha. The facility, announced, is expected to more than double delivery speeds across the state, benefiting customers, sellers, and local communities alike.

Faster Deliveries for Customers

According to Mayank Jain, Director (Credit & Lending), Amazon Pay, the company’s investment in Odisha is a significant milestone in improving logistics efficiency. “With the launch of a new fulfilment centre, we have been able to strengthen our delivery network and improve our same-day and next-day delivery speeds. Customers, including Prime members, can now receive their favourite products faster than ever before,” Jain said.

The new facility will ensure quicker delivery timelines, particularly during festive seasons and high-demand periods, giving customers access to a wider range of products with greater reliability.

A Growing Network in Odisha

With this launch, Amazon’s operations network in Odisha now comprises a fulfilment centre, a sortation centre, more than 250 “I Have Space” (IHS) partner stores, and over 60 delivery stations. This expanded infrastructure is expected to not only improve delivery speeds but also enhance last-mile connectivity in both urban and semi-rural areas.

Over the past six months, Odisha has witnessed a remarkable 10% faster user growth compared to the national average, with nearly 20% of all transactions happening at offline merchants. Amazon officials attribute this surge to improved digital adoption, wider seller participation, and enhanced logistics reach across the state.

Boost for Sellers and Local Economy

Highlighting the role of local businesses, Pallavi Singh, Senior Manager at Amazon Prime, noted that more than 17,000 sellers from Odisha have already joined the platform. “These sellers are not only serving millions of customers but also creating hundreds of jobs across the state. The new fulfilment centre will further empower them by enabling faster storage, processing, and delivery of their products,” Singh said.

The fulfilment centre will provide sellers with advanced warehousing and packaging support, helping them expand their reach while reducing operational costs. Small and medium businesses (SMBs), in particular, are expected to benefit from this infrastructure boost, making it easier for them to scale nationwide.

Employment Opportunities

Apart from improving customer experience, the fulfilment centre is creating significant employment opportunities for the local workforce. From warehouse staff and delivery associates to support roles in logistics and supply chain management, hundreds of jobs are expected to be generated directly and indirectly in the region.

Amazon also highlighted its commitment to training and upskilling employees in cutting-edge logistics operations, further boosting employability in the state.

Strengthening Odisha’s Digital Ecosystem

Officials emphasized that the expansion is part of Amazon’s long-term vision to contribute to Odisha’s digital growth story. With rising adoption of e-commerce, fintech, and digital payments in the region, Amazon Pay has seen nearly one-fifth of all local transactions take place at offline merchants, signaling growing trust in hybrid shopping models.

The company believes that investments like these will not only modernize logistics but also contribute to Odisha’s broader economic development by integrating local sellers, jobseekers, and customers into India’s booming digital economy.

The launch of the fulfilment centre marks Amazon’s deepening engagement with Odisha at a time when e-commerce adoption in tier-2 and tier-3 cities is witnessing unprecedented growth. By enhancing delivery speed, supporting sellers, and creating jobs, Amazon aims to position itself as a key partner in the state’s digital transformation journey.

This expansion is not just about faster deliveries—it’s about empowering sellers, generating employment, and creating a seamless shopping experience for millions of customers in Odisha.
