Odisha Approves 73 New Treatment Packages Under ABPMJAY-GJAY
State expands cashless healthcare services, strengthens monitoring and cancer care support
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has approved 73 new state-specific treatment packages under the ABPMJAY-GJAY scheme, further expanding its cashless healthcare coverage. With the latest additions, the total number of treatment packages now stands at 2,163. The decision aims to improve access to seamless and uninterrupted care for beneficiaries, particularly in oncology, hematology, and ophthalmology.
The approval was granted during an empowered committee meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja. During the meeting, Health and Family Welfare Secretary Aswathy S highlighted key challenges affecting the scheme’s efficiency, while Brundha D, CEO of the State Health Assurance Society, presented updates on implementation progress and ongoing initiatives.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of strict enforcement to prevent fraudulent claims, reduce non-compliance by empanelled hospitals, and curb suspicious practices. Strengthening monitoring mechanisms was identified as a top priority to ensure better service delivery and safeguard the integrity of the scheme.
One of the major decisions included the introduction of 121 new oncology packages, expanding support for cancer patients across the state. Additionally, the committee approved revising the rates of 55 existing packages based on recommendations from the medico-expert committee. These measures aim to enhance affordability and ensure that beneficiaries receive quality treatment without financial barriers.
The committee also approved a phased implementation of ABPMJAY-GJAY services in government healthcare institutions. This move is expected to strengthen public health facilities and bring cashless treatment closer to rural and underserved populations.
In continuation of administrative reforms, 1,009 Swasthya Mitras (SMs) will be redesignated as Pradhan Mantri Arogya Mitras (PMAMs) to streamline beneficiary assistance. The panel also allowed offline claim settlements for dependent children aged 6–18 whose names were missing from the IT platform during the transition from GJAY to the combined scheme, ensuring no child is left out due to technical discrepancies.
To further boost cancer care, the committee approved an interest-free revolving fund of Rs 10 lakh for Tata Memorial Centre (TMC). This fund will help facilitate cashless high-end diagnostic tests for cancer patients, improving early detection and timely treatment outcomes.
The meeting was attended by Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Principal Secretary of Finance Sanjeeb Mishra, Principal Secretary of Electronics and IT Vishal Kumar Dev, and Principal Secretary of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Sanjay Kumar Singh. Officials noted that the newly approved measures will not only enhance the reach of Odisha’s universal health coverage programme but also significantly improve beneficiary satisfaction across the state.
With the expansion of treatment packages and strengthened monitoring mechanisms, Odisha aims to reinforce its commitment to providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare to all.
