Odisha Accelerates Renewable Energy Push with PM Surya Ghar, PM-KUSUM Schemes

Deputy CM reviews progress, directs faster grievance resolution and vendor accountability
Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s transition towards a clean and sustainable energy future received fresh impetus on Monday as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture & Farmer’s Empowerment, Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo reviewed the progress of flagship schemes under the Energy Department — PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM. Both initiatives aim to boost renewable energy adoption at the household and agricultural levels.
Singh Deo reaffirmed the state’s commitment to creating a self-reliant energy ecosystem driven by innovation and inclusivity. “Our goal is to empower every household and farmer through renewable solutions, ensuring sustainable growth for generations,” he said.
Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the state has received 1,28,336 applications, with feasibility approval granted to 1,27,820 of them. So far, a solar capacity of 33.6 MW has been installed across various households. The PM-KUSUM scheme, designed to promote solar pumps and decentralised renewable energy for agriculture, has received approval for 50 MW capacity from the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC).
The Deputy CM stressed the need for faster grievance redressal, especially complaints lodged via the Chief Minister’s Grievance portal. He instructed the Energy Department to conduct regular performance evaluations of vendors and to take strict action against underperformers, including deregistration if necessary.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Principal Secretary, Energy, Vishal Dev; FA-cum-Special Secretary Debidutta Tripathy; Additional Secretary Saidutta Biplab Keshari Pradhan; along with representatives from OREDA, TP Central Odisha, and other Energy Department wings. These officials provided detailed updates on the progress of the schemes and outlined a strategic roadmap to scale up their implementation.
The review highlighted the government’s focus on ensuring that renewable energy benefits reach citizens swiftly while maintaining high-quality execution standards. With a strong policy framework, streamlined vendor oversight, and clear capacity targets, Odisha is positioning itself as a leader in decentralised renewable energy deployment in India.
